Stomach is a very important organ that helps in the digestion of food and gives protection to intestine against harmful bacterias. The connection of stomach is to both the esophagus on the above side and the small intestine below.
There can be much kind of stomach problems and gastropathy is the name given to stomach problems. Some of the stomach problems are portal hypertensive gastropathy, menetrier’s disease, peptic ulcer, dyspepsia etc.The reason behind the stomach problem is infection and the ulcers and cancer are caused by helicobacter pylori infection. The bacteria survive in the stomach due to the urea enzymes which converts the urea into ammonia and carbon dioxide and the digestion is not proper and the gastric acid neutralizes. The inadequate gastric acid gives negative health impacts. If the gastric acid is in excess then that is known as hyperchlorhydria. It causes stomach ulcers.
Causes and symptoms: The causes of the stomach problems include excessive smoking, side-effect of some medicines, overeating and very spicy food. The symptoms of the stomach problems include nausea, cramps, diarrhea, pain in the abdomen and vomiting. The endoscopy and x-rays are used to assess the patients having chronic stomach disorders.
The disorders of stomach are explained below:
Gastritis: The stomach wall and the acid get protection from mucus. When the mucus lining gets disrupted then acidity problems arises. The symptoms include upper abdominal pain, indigestion, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting and heartburn. When the pain continues then blood may be seen in the stools. If the bleeding is continuous and in enough volume then it may even cause blood in the vomiting which is called as hematemesis. If the acidity is not controlled then it can cause severe loss of blood and a hole in the stomach develops which called for a surgery.
Gastroparesis: This stomach problem is diagnosed at a later stage when the motility of the food ends and it stays stagnant in the stomach. The cause of this problem is diabetes and it cans e because of a blockage in the stomach, cancer or a stroke. The symptoms include abdominal pain, fullness, bloating, nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite.
Diarrhea: In the process of digestion the food gets stored into the liquid of the stomach. The food travels to the small intestine and colon in the liquid form. This organ absorbs the water which makes the food into the solid form. The virus and bacteria increases the amount of liquid secretion and it goes to the digestive tract so that the water gets absorbed. The diarrhea can be acute or chronic.
Crohn's Disease: It is inflammatory bowel disease that affects the digestive tract. The inflammated ulcers affect the thickness of the wall of the stomach and bleeding can happen but the chances of perforate are less. The symptoms of this disease include abdominal pain, loss of appetite, and weight loss.
Cancers: The possibility of stomach cancer is rare. The stomach cancers can occur if there is lot of fluctuations in the acidity level. The symptoms include abdominal full, loss of weight and abdominal pain. The real cause for stomach cancer is not known but is more reacted to infection due to helicobacter pylori, pernicious anemia, Menetriere's disease, and nitrogenous preservatives in food.
