When my husband asked what the title of this article was, he replied… “What? Ultimate money Saving tip? Is it to never marry a woman like you?”

Isn’t that charming? I told him that I instantly thought of another way to save money: no more Saturday date nights with him!

Seriously, with having 6 children (4 now adults), date night is essential for us in remembering why we wanted to do this in the first place. We love being together and we value our time alone. Life feels so simple when it is just us. We too have been having those money conversations more and more recently about ways to cut back. Date night was something we refused to give up, so we tweaked it slightly.

Being “foodies”, date night meant Saturday night plus fabulous restaurant plus great conversation equals love. Now date night can mean date morning while walking the dog in nature and then a quite breakfast alone somewhere. It can also equal lunch and a Saturday afternoon matinee movie. It can also equal taking an afternoon break on any day to go and walk by the gorgeous Willamette River. We also enjoy simply watching a movie together at home while the kids are upstairs. Of course, the challenge there is for me not to fall asleep halfway through!

Date nights we are planning but have not yet experienced: a picnic on the living room floor while Brenna and Carter sleep over at their older sisters’ apartment or a friend’s house; a drive to the coast and a walk on the beach; or grabbing a bunch of magazines and doing a dream life board together. I’m sure Stephen has other ideas in mind but that would be a different article!

We at intent.com would love to hear about your inexpensive date nights so we too can expand our list and keep our partners close to our hearts, without chipping away at our financial security.
