Skin Yeast Infections

Although the most common place for yeast infection is the vagina, it can also appear in areas of the skin, particularly those where there are creases and where there is a lot of moisture. This could be within folds of the skin or in moist dark places, such as between the toes and in the armpits. The reason for it occurring like this is due to the small amounts of Candida Albicans organisms normally present, which can proliferate when the skin bacteria natural balance becomes upset.

When fold of skin are infected by yeast infection, it is called Intertrigo. The appearance of a red rash identifies Intertrigo, and scaled outer edges. On a baby's diaper area, there can develop a red rash with fluid pustules, known as Candidal Diaper Rash. To prevent the spread of the rash, cream can be used, which is usually very effective. Following the baby's bath, it is a good idea to apply Vaseline to the affected area after the rash has healed, to stop it re-appearing.

If your job involves having your hands in a moist condition, you may suffer from yeast infection between your fingers. This is called Erosio Interdigitalsis Blastomycetica. The web part of the hand becomes red and soft. It is more likely to happen to diabetic people. A swelling and watery discharge in the skin around the nails may also be a sign of yeast infection there.

It is usually quick and simple to treat skin yeast infection. Only use mild soap to wash the area, and avoid rubbing or chaffing. Do not apply any chemicals, which irritate the rash and don't scratch it. Tight-fitting clothing is better avoided so as to keep the infected area dry. Use a non-irritating deodorant. The natural soothing action of tea tree oil or garlic can help. To eat, you can get acidophilus supplements and natural yogurt. If your feet are affected, it is a good idea to wear sandals or leather shoes that let the feet breathe and to change socks regularly. When you dry the area after a shower, be careful to pat it dry to minimize irritation.
